Elaine Chew joined the team in 2014 and is a Special Counsel of ACSV Legal. Prior to joining ACSV Legal, Elaine worked at international law firms in Malaysia and Vietnam, including a white-shoe law firm. Elaine is a 2007 graduate of the University of Reading, was admitted as Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 2010, and is a registered foreign lawyer in Vietnam.
Elaine is an active speaker in the ASEAN region concerning starting up in Vietnam, providing extensive counsel to NGOs and social enterprises mentorship to women in technology. Notably providing clean water solutions to impoverished areas and establishing female founding technology entrepreneurship in prosthetic technology and fintech sectors.
Elaine is the current co-representative of the Hong Kong Business Association Vietnam in the Vietnam Business Forum and was the co-chair of the Women in Business Sub-committee of the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam. Through such representations, Elaine had the opportunity to participate in a public-private dialogue channel by presenting issues faced by clients and members of the relevant business association and questioning the draft and final reforms issued by the government of Vietnam.
Elaine is fluent in English, Malay and Cantonese.
AREAS OF EXPERTISE
Elaine's expertise includes advising foreign direct investments in a range of conditional sectors, notably healthcare, education, fintech, and real estate, acting for a range of clients in the form of mergers and acquisitions by private equity and the like. Since such conditional sectors are grey in interpreting the laws, Elaine helps clients consider effective structuring from the onset, considering the client's end game while being both legal and practical concurrently.
